Hygiene poverty is a crisis affecting thousands across Colorado, and at Justice Necessary, we believe no one should have to choose between food, hygiene, and dignity. That’s why we created Find Your Pantry—a community-driven resource connecting Coloradans with access to essential items like food, personal care products like soap and toothpaste, diapers, and period supplies.

This ensures contributions directly support community priorities and helps more people access the essentials they need to live with dignity.

Our Inspiration

Find Your Pantry™ is a community initiative created and supported by Justice Necessary™.

In 2022, Justice Necessary commissioned the Colorado Women’s Study on Period Poverty, Diaper Need, and Hygiene Poverty to better understand and shed some light on the struggle of Coloradans to afford hygiene basics. We gathered responses from over 1,256 women across Colorado and repeated the study in 2024 revealing the growing needs our Colorado neighbors face:

The findings were eye-opening:

53% of women who menstruate reported experiencing period poverty — a 13% increase over the past two years.
68% of women with children in diapers faced diaper need, reflecting a nearly 19% surge.
66% of women with children struggled to afford basic hygiene items, marking a 10% rise in hygiene poverty over the same period.

In response to these findings, we created Find Your Pantry to ensure all Coloradans can easily locate healthy food, and essential everyday items like personal toiletries, diapers and wipes, and period products.

Having access to pantry stock can help prevent infections, illnesses, and disease due to poor diet and/or lack of hygiene.

Dignity and self-esteem:

Nobody should feel shame, embarrassment, or low self-esteem due to a lack of access to healthy foods or hygiene products.

Limited assistance:

Pantries are a way to bridge the gap left by government programs like SNAP and WIC that do not cover hygiene products.
